How can we mitigate the political fall-out from public sector cuts and job losses?
Following the general election, the scale of workforce change required to deliver the necessary cost savings and more value for money in the public sector, at both national and local government level, is unprecedented.
Political leaders will be faced with identifying massive efficiency savings, whilst minimising the political fallout and preserving frontline services, in order to show such cuts are both necessary and proportionate.
In addition, political leaders will be under immense pressure to identify cuts quickly in order to deliver savings as soon as possible.
In terms of impact, not only will job losses create real personal cost to the individuals and families affected, but they could put public sector employers into serious and prolonged conflict with the people responsible for service delivery and the Unions which represent them.
