Penna Announces Shelter as Designated Charity for 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Penna has chosen Shelter as our designated charity for 2024. With a long legacy, indeed 50 years of commitment to equity and positive social change we are delighted that our colleagues voted unanimously to support Shelter, an organisation that shares our bold vision of a better future for everyone.

Home is the foundation of our lives, and Shelter understands this better than anyone. Their mission is rooted in ensuring that everyone has access to a safe, secure, and affordable home. Home, they believe, is the bedrock of health, well-being, and the key to thriving in life. Shelter's tireless efforts encompass advocacy, support, and practical solutions to address homelessness and housing issues across the nation. By supporting Shelter, we aim to contribute to a future where everyone can enjoy the security and stability of a decent home.

In 2022/23 alone, Shelter's impact was profound, with 15,555 households receiving support from their emergency helpline. This underscores the critical role Shelter plays in providing immediate assistance to those facing housing crises.

Shelter's work is more vital and needed than ever with recent statistics putting the true scale of today’s housing crisis into sharp focus. According to Shelter's recent research, at least 309,000 people in England spent Christmas without a home, including almost 140,000 children. This represents a stark increase of 14%, or 38,100 people, in just one year. These numbers emphasise the urgent need for organisations like Shelter, who work tirelessly to address the growing challenges of homelessness and housing insecurity.

Throughout 2024, we will be fundraising for Shelter at all our events and there will be numerous opportunities for our team and supporters to get involved. We encourage everyone to keep a close eye on our social media channels for updates on fundraising events and ways to participate. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
